Esherick was a wood sculptor and furniture craftsmen that created works of a
wholly different kind. Throughout his collections runs a pattern of organic and
flowing forms that appear to move, to twist, and to turn. He and many others
were pioneers of the contemporary studio furniture movement and the formation
of many schools in craft and the American Craft Council.
Challenging classic structure and style, Wharton carved out a place for his
asymetric, prismatic structures. Enviable is his form language – bold in it's
monolithic stance.
